change
In my previous posts, I decided to “eat my own dog food” and try to use my product management approach to build a new product and a company around it.
I got as far as completing the market and competitive analysis, defined the buyer and user personas, as well as identified some potential initial adopters and got to the point where I was ready to put a roadmap together. Unfortunately, life suddenly intervened.
Between then and now, I got a new job with a Nonprofit Organization focused on helping those without a traditional four-year college degree. I have spent time gaining knowledge and skills to find jobs that will not only support their family but also build generational wealth.
Now that I am five months into the role, I finally have enough mental space to revisit this personal project and start building a successful product from scratch.
However, with a full-time job and family commitments, my schedule and capacity have changed dramatically.
Because of the change, it’s time for a pivot.
Unlike other start-up pivots, the market fundamentals and opportunities have not changed. However, the business (i.e., me, since this is a one-man show) situation has changed, and it requires revisiting the strategy and overall approach.
So, it is time to restart the journey and see how I can build a successful, product-oriented company without external investments and through pure organic growth.
Again, following my own advice, I’ll start by revisiting the product canvas to see if I need to rethink my initial target buyers and users and the values I can deliver.
